The Gap Health & Racquet Club annual Open Day is o The Gap Health & Racquet Club annual Open Day is on again!

This year's event will be a little more special since the club has just had a major renovation. With updates to the cardio room, weights room, cycle cube and group fitness rooms it is going to be the place to be!

This design was taken across print and digital formats, including posters, DL flyers, social media posts, internal multimedia screens, newsletters and LED signage. I am so happy with this one!

If you live in the area, pop this in your diary and support this local family-owned business. It is always a fun day with entertainment and prizes, plus one day only membership specials that are hard to beat!

Family History Book Design and Typeset The Family History Book Design and Typeset

The idea for this book came when attending my Aunt's 90th birthday party. I couldn't believe how many photos and records she had collected from relatives over the years. So I suggested compiling it all into a book about her life. After 6 months we have a beautiful collection of memories and photos spanning back to the mid 1800s!

Even though this book isn't self published, with 45 copies printed I know the research and family trees won't be lost.

I love designing books, but this one was so much more!
Quantum Computing Made Clear | Book Design and Typ Quantum Computing Made Clear | Book Design and Typeset

Quantum computing was proposed by Richard Feynman in 1981, based on the discovery of the quantum effect by Max Planck in 1900. On trying to understand the subject many people are puzzled and overwhelmed. Author Ron Eggins wrote this book to make quantum computing as clear as possible by filling the gap between science articles and advanced mathematical treatment.

Ron Eggins has a wide experience in computer science and technology and maintains a keen interest in science education, particularly in quantum computing and more recently artificial intelligence.

Quantum Computing Made Clear is Ron's first book. It is well laid out, with short concise chapters, clear equations and tables, as well as numerous diagrams to help explain the complex topic. Ron has self-published the book and intends to send copies to high schools and tertiary institutions.

Now that this book is finished, Ron intends to start a new book on AI!

The Toowong and District Historical Society researches, collects and records the history of the suburbs of Toowong, Milton and Auchenflower, and also part of Mt Coot-tha. To date they have self-published 17 books.

In early August they contacted me for a quick cover design. Their latest book, Strolling Through Time by Lee Bull, was to be printed that week. Luckily they were happy with the first design and we made the printers deadline in time for the launch on August 22nd.

The book contains 14 walks around Toowong CBD and nearby streets (including Brisbane Street, Benson Street, Coronation Drive, Glen Road, Archer Street, Sylvan Road, Maryvale Street, Sherwood Road and Dean Street) showcasing historical photos, information from title deeds, maps and public records as well as interviews with former and long term residents. Walks vary in distance and range between 20 minutes and 2 hours in length. It is a wonderful resource for the local area.

If you are interested in a copy TDHS can be contacted via their website toowonghistory.org.au ... link is in bio 🙂

There is so much happening at The Gap Fitness – in this one area of the club they have a new layout with new bikes, new screen and new immersive programs! I can't wait to see what is planned for the rest of the club.

The Cycle Cube 2.0 launch party was held in August.

'Retirement Living in Durack' certainly seems to be a best seller, with two reprints since the launch in July! Congratulations to Vicki Mynott, Teresa Hauff and the Forest Place Residents' Club Inc on a successful publication. It was a pleasure working with you.

I purchased many souvenirs for family and friends, but this one would have to be my favourite (especially in the crazy lead up to end of year). A mouse pad from Doge's Palace, or Palazzo Ducale, in Venice.

Such a good reminder that I actually did go to Venice, even though it feels like SO LONG AGO now 🥲😂

This year was the 40th anniversary of the Forest Grove Retirement Village in Durack. To commemorate the Residents' Club engaged author and resident Vicki Mynott to write a book on the village history. The result is 136 pages including founder, staff and resident interviews, family histories, development plans, maps and over 100 photos.

The book was self-published by the Residents' Club in July this year. For the launch 100 copies were printed, these sold out with enough orders to warrant another two print runs!

Congratulations to Vicki and the Residents' Club on a wonderful publication.
