Book Design and Typesetting Australia and A Book Design and Typesetting

Australia and Australians: What we are and why by Peter Hasker was published in December last year. The final product was an A4 size book with 356 pages and over 450 images ... it was a mammoth project!

Since it's release Peter has received a number of wonderful reviews that he continues to share with me ...

"A work like this is a serious undertaking and I am impressed (I worked at the Melbourne Age for 12 years and was involved with publishing books as well as the newspaper). The topic is massive and you have somehow managed to do it great justice..."

"If anyone ever wanted a wart and all book about Australia, its history and its people, this book is a must read for anyone who is interested in this wonderful country we call home. The author Peter Hasker, who himself has an incredible story to tell, has crafted and illustrated this book, as a must read cover to cover, or as a handy reference from when the continent was first discovered in 1606. The research, the illustrations, photographs and supporting evidence is exemplary and a credit to the author who is a true Australian patriot. Simply cannot recommend is book strongly enough."

Peter will be making the book available later this year on Amazon. Until then if you are interested in a copy send a message and I will pass on details to the author.

Brisbane Pilates Studio – Baddie Challenge 💥

At the beginning of April Rebecca from Brisbane Pilates Studio sent through a marketing brief for a new project. The design goals and vibe was

"Create hype and curiosity around the upcoming challenge. Emphasise that something bold and badass is launching soon. Appeal to people who want to transform themselves with edge and confidence.

Tone: Fierce, Empowering, Playful
Think: Comic book villain era."

We started with an initial concept, then took this out to a full suite of promotional material – from coming soon to final spots and sold out. This included posters, socials, email headers and promotional material.

This was so much fun to work on and the team at Brisbane Pilates Studio have put in so much work on the content, it really is going to be badass!!

This week I am working on my own family history with my Aunt who is 90 years old. She has brought a wealth of information, including birth certificates, letters and irreplaceable photos that will add so much to the book. Not to mention the stories about relatives I never had the chance to meet.

We are not sure if this one will be self published, but the printed version will be a valuable resource for generations to come. Such a worthwhile and fun exercise 🤍

Do you read the About the Author section? Do you read the About the Author section?

Over the past 10 years I would say 90% of the books I have designed included an author bio in the back matter. One of the latest projects I have been working on, the author was hesitant to include one – completely understandable, many people find it difficult to write about themselves even writers.

However a well-written bio can establish your credibility as an author and build a connection with your readers. It has been shown to be one of the main factors that influence book buying decisions. Once crafted your bio can also be used on the back cover of your book, on your author website/blog, and across your social media sites, ... just to name a few.

A good author bio is written in third person and provides a quick and concise overview of you and your writing. It is an essential part of a book and your 'author brand'.

Personally I believe an author bio to be invaluable, and to be honest I love reading them. 📚️
